Treasures New and Old

A wealth of information is at our fingertips today. The internet alone provides instant access to 7,000,000 unique websites containing over 20,000,000,000 documents! Add to this 3,000 books published every day, as well as those stretching back into antiquity, and we've got a treasure chest of knowledge just waiting to be opened.

The Bible is unequalled when it comes to spiritual resources. Sadly most Christian parents, not to mention their children, are
scripturally ignorant in classic sense. Today even most of those regularly attending church are hard pressed to quote 10 Bible verses in a row. Many would have trouble remembering even 5 outside of the Lord's Prayer and perhaps Psalms 23. Distracted by other matters, our generation and the those coming have found other things to do than more important than studying and be studied by God's word.

The choice not to know, much less obey, many of the most important of the Bibles 6,468 commands has left our households vulnerable with our families too often being decimated as a result. Clearly praying parents would do well to head the advice of scriptures:

"My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God." Proverbs 2:1-5

It Takes An Army...

Spiritually speaking it takes a little more than a village to raise a child. With the array of weapons the Enemy of our souls has assembled it takes an army. And a well trained, disciplined and diligent army at that. As Thomas Jefferson noted, "The price of freedom is eternal vigilence." Scripture agrees, counseling:

"Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that's where life starts.Don't talk out of both sides of your mouth; avoid careless banter, white lies, and gossip. Keep your eyes straight ahead; ignore all sideshow distractions. Watch your step, and the road will stretch out smooth before you. Look neither right nor left; leave evil in the dust." Proverbs 4:23-27

While vigilance is needed for politics and government, it is far more necessary for spiritual safety and freedom. This has never been truer than today when the
"wisdom from below which is earthly, sensual and demonic" has overrun society in so many ways. As scripture warns teeming millions all around us have become blinded and numb to the wisdom of God:

"If our Message is obscure to anyone it's because they're looking or going the wrong way and refuse to give it serious attention. All they have eyes for is the fashionable god of darkness. They think he can give them what they want, and that they won't have to bother believing a Truth they can't see." 2 Corinthians 4: 3-4

Our response should be to study and pray, encouraging one another to gather together to seek God and learn to obey. Again in this area the Bible offers us good advice:

"Study to show yourself approved for God's use, a workman not needing to to be ashamed, rightly understanding the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15

For this purpose
Praying Parents offers suggest the following resources. We pray they will be of value to you, your family and to generations to come...
